Barbie is the kind of toy that can easily divide a room. From those that have the fondest memories of the blonde bombshell whilst growing up, to those who despise the beauty standard that Barbie has stood for over the years. This tiny plastic doll has had her fair share of critics over the years but the team at Mattel are back and better than ever, launching the new range of evolved Barbie dolls that features ‘4 body types, 7 skin tones, 22 eye colors, and 24 hairstyles and (of course) countless on-trend fashions and accessories’.
In other words, Barbie has changed and she is better than ever, allowing a more diverse sector of young girls to relate to the doll and while of course the internet is full of people saying ‘they haven’t gone far enough’, we applaud Mattel for recognising how diverse and global our culture now is and stepping up to the plate to help little girls dream a little closer to their own reflection.
We hope this is the start of the best era for Barbie yet, our inner eight year old may need a trip to the toy store.
