My Holiday Fashion Wish List

Now that December is in full swing, it’s time for me to start thinking seriously about my holiday fashion wish list. I’ll get a few of these pieces myself, so I have them in time to wear to holiday parties, but I’m hoping that some of the others will magically show up under the tree this year.

1. A Cape Coat

Have you seen the pic in which Poppy Delevingne combines a beautiful cape coat with a chic pair of yellow boots? Truth be told I want both the boots and the cape, but if I had the choice, I’d go with the winter cape coat. It is one of the hot items for 2013, as evidenced in that it showed up as a fashion must-have in both Marie Claire and XOJane. The great thing about the cape coat is that it’s warm enough for any weather and stylish enough to take you to work, to holiday parties, and even to Midnight Mass. Pair it with a matching chic woolen hat and gloves, but keep a faux fur hat and muff in reserve for those really fancy occasions.

2. A Sparkling Boucle Dress

I secretly want all of SLiNK’s 12 Dresses of Christmas, but my favorite is the sleek, sparkling boucle dress. This little black dress is form-hugging, naturally flattering, and designed to last for seasons to come. My favorite part is the little bow on the left hip — a perfect way to add a bit of flair without breaking the otherwise smooth lines on the dress. I think I’ll have to buy this one myself so I have it for Christmas Eve.

3. Black Suede Ankle Boots

If you’re like me, your last-winter boots are probably scuffed, stained, and creased. It’s a good thing that there are so many new, great styles available. This year I want the black suede ankle boots with the tall heel. After all, I need a good way to show off my legs when I wear that little boucle dress. I’ll also need at least one pair of sturdy leather boots for everyday, which will probably end up on the Christmas list. If anyone’s out shopping for me, I’m size 7 1/2 wide!

4. A Silver Lavalier Necklace

What’s going to go with my little black dress and the ankle boots? A long silver lavalier necklace, of course. It’s always fun to have something dangling around. Matching earrings are a must, although with a good necklace you can wear any diamond or crystal studs you already own.

5. New Silk Pajamas

When I was a kid, my mother always gave each of us a pair of new flannel pajamas on Christmas Eve, which we would then wear to bed and have on the next morning when we bounded down the stairs to see what Santa brought. My boyfriend and I continue the same custom, although we’ve found a few more grown-up alternatives to flannel. This year, we’re both getting matching silk pajamas, and we are going to greet Christmas morning in style.

6. A Sapphire Engagement Ring

This is the one that I really hope turns up under the tree this year. My boyfriend and I are celebrating our second Christmas together, which means that it’s approaching the time when I think he’s going to pop the question. And no, I don’t want a diamond. I’ve sent my boo links to sapphire rings from Front Jewelers — sapphire rings are a fashion-forward statement and have appeared on the hands of everyone from Mariah Carey to Jennifer Lopez — not to mention Kate Middleton, who proudly wears a heirloom sapphire and diamond ring.

What about you? What fashion must-haves are you hoping for this year? Let me know so I can add them to my list.
