Style Essential: Ankle Boots

If you do one thing to update your look this season, it should be buying a new pair of shoes. There’s no need to splash out on a whole new wardrobe, although that would definitely be nice, you can work the season’s hottest trends just by treating yourselves to one new item.

They’ll go with everything, take you from day to night, and look just as great on curvy girls as size zero skinny minis. And just what is this magic pair of shoes? A pair of ankle boots!

For years, I never even looked at a pair of ankle boots; having written them off as unflattering and something which would cut my already err… ‘vertically challenged’ legs in half! But the funny thing is – they don’t. Even Rihanna is a convert. A pair of ankle boots now tops my list of footwear must-haves.

This season, ankle boots are everywhere. The high street has clearly sought inspiration from the hottest designers – with everything from the soft patent styles seen at Christopher Kane, to the killer navy (school uniform colours are hot this season) heels seen at Hermes putting in an appearance at affordable stores.

For a show-stopping patent number, try Russell and Bromley. I think it’s worth splashing out if you can bear to part with your cash – or New Look if you’re just dipping your toe in the water. If you’re not quite sure what sort of ankle boot is for you, the range of womens boots online at Brantano could be a great place to start, since they stock designs by everyone from the practical Clarks, to the glamorous Emilio Luca X.

While flat options are very of-the-moment, even just a small heel can do wonders for your legs. One of the reasons I am so whole-heartedly converted to the book of ankle boots is that you can honestly wear them with anything. A chunky heeled style, in black or brown, can be worn with skinny jeans, tucked in for drinks with the girls or worn for a day’s retail therapy. They also suit a smart dress and tights for work, or even with bare legs and skater skirt for when you’re really feeling brave.

I’ll even be rocking these tan beauties with a short summer dress or shorts while temperatures still allow for it – I just can’t wait for winter.

Are you convinced by the ankle boot trend? Try a few on and I promise you’ll be won over!
