Oscar Red Carpet Winners 2016

Well we did it, for the first time we stayed up to watch the most important night on the fashion calendar and hear Ryan Seacrest chime ‘Who are you wearing’ at many a leading lady and gentleman and boy were we pleased we did.

This year Oscar choices felt a little left field and the die hard rules of trains and primary palettes were ushered out of the way for a host of more daring choices. Big winners for the night included the likes of Marchesa who dressed several stars in their incredible gowns and showed their versatility with frothy, powdery chiffon numbers to more serious and embellished pieces (Yes we are looking at you Heidi Klum and Chrissy Teigen).

Other frock winners included Rooney Mara who looked insanely elegant Givenchy and Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture – we salute you.

But our absolute favourite Oscar dresses go to…

In 5th place we have Olivia Wilde, in Valentino Haute Couture. It is most definitely daring. That white plunge is not for the faint hearted but we LOVE the back detail and are fascinated by the structure and cut of this. The pleating is beautiful and did we mention that back!

In 4th place we have Brie Larson, Oscar winner and what a dress to win it. A little more classic Oscar style than some of our other favs, but this blue ruffled number is intensely elegant and the fit is perfection. We love this cobalt shade that makes Brie very noticeable in a sea of celebs. Nice to see Gucci on the Oscars carpet too!

In 3rd place we have a Brit chic! Daisy Riley is channeling that Downton vibe in this beautiful Chanel Haute Couture number. It feels timeless, vintage and classic but without the Oscars train and at a hipster ankle grazing length it also feels very fresh and young. It is full of British charm.

In 2nd place again we have headed out of the USA again for this amazing Calvin Klein frock worn by Irish beauty and all round charmer Saoirse Ronan. In emerald green to represent her home country this dress is incredibly simple but the hand sequins gown is so stunning and the colour so gorgeous it stole the number 2 spot with ease.

And finally, our frock winner (and of course winner of an Oscar this season) goes to the first lady who entered the red carpet dress war this season. Alicia Vikander looked incredible in custom made Louis Vuitton (which they had been working on for several months). The high low hem, the embellished detail, the simple shoulder baring neckline and the gathered bubble hem and train basically transformed Alicia from actress to princess and what an amazing dress to win it.
